• On February 17, Arnold Schetelig, a physician, writer, and archaeologist, dies in Nervi. He had devoted himself to his adopted town until the very end. Here is how the magazine of the "Pro Nervi" association, of which he had been founder and driving force, reports his funeral: “On the morning of February 17, 1900, Dr. Arnold Schetelig lay on his deathbed surrounded by the flowers he had so loved; his face was composed and serene. The mystery of death had not managed to move him, because he was accustomed to dominating events, not to being dominated by them. And indeed Arnold Schetelig had nothing to fear from death. Beyond the limits of the possible, he had done his duty. Illness had struck him down when he was still carrying out his professional duties, when he was still offering his last strength to the impatient call of the sick.” • The "Practical Guide to Genoa and Rivieras" by A.O. Munro is printed, with an extensive description of Nervi. Among other things, it mentions that: "...During the Carnival season, beautiful parties are organized in Nervi, one of which is the battle of flowers, in which the Genoese high-life and the flower of the foreign colony take part, with splendid carriages." • (to be completed)
