Nervi - a name that for many years throughout Europe indicated a place of extraordinary charm and truly miraculous health-giving virtues. The town from the beginning of the nineteenth century, when it was still a secret known to few, until the First World War, and even later, was for many the ideal place to escape the rigours of winter, and above all a hope for improved health. Here writers and artists from all over Europe (and beyond) strolled along the wonderful Via Marina, stayed in cosmopolitan hotels, leaving in their works, as well as in their letters, traces of their wanderings and memories of the people they met. Famous doctors worked here by choice or fleeing persecution from political regimes they opposed. Here anarchists and revolutionaries dreaming of a better world gathered. Aristocrats of various origins read books and wrote letters, listened to music and attended concerts. However, times have changed and Nervi no longer presents itself as it once did. Property speculation and neglect of the city's streets, traffic and cars parked along the roads have altered its appearance, but for the attentive observer, for those who can perceive the spirit of this place, Nervi still tells fascinating stories.
